The artisan Émile Gallé is renowned as a flag-bearer of Art Nouveau, an ornamental art movement that blossomed in Europe during the late 19th century. This exhibition, held to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Gallé’s death, retraces the footsteps of the master glass craftsman through a group of precious and rarely displayed works from the holdings of Japanese private collectors. Gallé pursued natural beauty through a diverse range of jobs as a glass artist, art director, and botanist, and his passion and conviction continue to exert a strong impact on present-day viewers.
